CTI helps American Bank improve quality of plastic card overlays

Monday 18 January 2010

Card Testing International was commissioned to perform the ISO Peel Strength test on several Debit & Credit card products for a US Bank in October 2009. They had received customer complaints regarding peeling occurring on the front of several of their card products shortly after issue. Peeling of a card face can have an impact on the read reliability returned from a Magnetic Stripe, as well as being detrimental to the brand image of a card issuer. CTI confirmed that the overlay bond strength on the front of the affected card products was weak, and the bank arranged for replacement card batches to be produced.

CTI tested samples from new batches of the same card products manufactured a couple of months later, and was pleased to report that overlay bond strengths were 3 times as strong.

Carrying out regular testing of card samples prior to issue, allows any shortfalls in quality to be addressed, before cards have been received by end users. CTI's Blank Card Stock testing programme is at your service, to help you achieve better card quality, and see that standards are maintained on a batch-by-batch basis.
